Range and Target Activities in the Baltimore Area Council

RATA Committee

The Range and Target Activities Committee sets safety policy, standards, and program guidelines for firearms, archery, and throwing sports within the Baltimore Area Council and its properties, and administers program and training to Scouts and adult leaders.

Contact shootingsports@baltimorescouting.org if you have any questions regarding Range and Target Activities policy, program, etc.

RATA Programs & Trainings

The RATA committee conducts several trainings and activities throughout the year, in addition to staffing ranges for units, district and council activities, etc. We strongly encourage any unit wishing to partake in RATA programs send adults through appropriate range safety trainings in order to operate the ranges at Broad Creek on your own. If you do not yet have enough trained adults, our committee is always happy to help staff a range for your unit’s activity. Because the committee is all volunteers, we encourage early requests to ensure a better chance of securing appropriate staff.

The committee also conducts two Range and Target Activities Weekend events each year, with multiple RATA disciplines featured, including Cowboy Action Shooting, Sporting Arrows, Rifle, Shotgun, Archery, and more!

For more information and registration, see the RATA calendar on the right side of this page and click on the appropriate event.
